MARATHON MOM tells the inspiring story of Beatie Deutsch, an ultra-Orthodox mother of five who, after a pause from athletics to focus on her family, reignites her passion for running and embarks on a rigorous journey to fulfill her dream of becoming an Olympic marathoner. Having missed out on the 2020 Tokyo Olympics due to the pandemic, Deutsch battles a series of setbacks and psychological hurdles as she works her way back to a qualifying level. As she trains, her remarkable transcends the track, embodying powerful messages of perseverance and female empowerment.

 

Deutsch’s story is not only as a race to the finish line but also a parable about mothers succeeding against the odds while juggling myriad complex roles in the modern world. As a marathoner, mom and religious Jew, Deutsch inspires women to embrace their dreams and overcome their own challenges.

Rebecca Shore was a writer for the widely viewed documentary ISRAEL INSIDE: HOW A SMALL NATION MAKES A BIG DIFFERENCE (2011). She produced BENEATH THE HELMET: FROM HIGH SCHOOL TO THE HOMEFRONT (2014) and SUSTAINABLE NATION (SJFF 2019) and directed MEKONEN: THE JOURNEY OF AN AFRICAN JEW (2016), WHEN THE SMOKE CLEARS (2017) and CONVERTS (2021). She is an artist, educator and lecturer.

Oren Rosenfeld, winner of several Emmy Awards, was the coproducer of BENEATH THE HELMET: FROM HIGH SCHOOL TO THE HOMEFRONT (2014) and the director of HUMMUS!: THE MOVIE (2015) and CONVERTS (2021). He is a photojournalist and has produced, directed and filmed documentaries and investigative reports for the BBC, Vice, National Geographic and the History channel.
