Overview

Poetry-loving Anat (Dana Ivgy – ZERO MOTIVATION; JAFFA, SJFF 2010) is an elementary school teacher and single mother of Ido (Ben Sultan), an Israeli soldier nearing discharge from the Israeli army. The daughter of a general, Anat is fully supportive of military service, teaching her students about her father’s heroism during the Six-Day War. But on the day Ido returns home, tragedy strikes, discharges are suspended and he is called back to duty in Lebanon. Anat finds her personal commitment to the cause challenged, especially as revelations about Ido’s recall come to light. Sandwiched between her shell-shocked father’s traumatic past and her son’s uncertain future, both relationships deteriorate as Anat decides to take matters into her own hands to get Ido back—at any cost.

“Haaretz” named OXYGEN “the best Israeli movie of 2025, a targeted torpedo about the value of human life.” Director Netalie Braun strongly builds upon the psychological dynamics of the mother-son bond and ratchets up the layered tensions and emotional stakes of recurring family trauma. Featuring brilliant, heartrending performances from both leads, OXYGEN will leave you breathless.
