Virtual: Streaming March 31-April 13
In an ultra-Orthodox Jewish community in Jerusalem, Bati appears to have the perfect life—happily married to Lazer with three beautiful children. But when her husband is blackmailed and bullied by a Haredi gang, she discovers he is having a secret affair with his male study partner and her world begins to unravel. Determined to protect her family and save her marriage, Bati will stop at nothing to free Lazer from the gang’s grip, all while confronting her own hidden desires.
Directed by one of Israel’s most acclaimed filmmakers, Nir Bergman (BROKEN WINGS, “In Treatment”), this touching, provocative and uplifting film follows one woman’s courageous journey of self-discovery, faith and liberation. Screenwriter Mindi Erlich drew from her own experiences growing up Hasidic in Jerusalem, in a world with its own beliefs and rules. Married at only 18 and a mother by 19, Erlich wanted to write about the taboo topic of immature marriage, sexuality and how invisible she felt as a woman.
